At Compass, we believe successful projects are built on a foundation of trust, proactive problem-solving, and open communication. Our collaboration with Yamaha Precision Propeller on their Greenfield facility and a Phase 2 expansion perfectly exemplifies this philosophy. Furthermore, how Compass approaches manufacturing projects for our clients.
Setting the Stage for Success
Team collaboration between Compass and Yamaha Precision Propeller played a pivotal role in shaping the future of Yamaha’s operations in Greenfield. Originally, Yamaha operated out of several buildings at their existing facility, which created inefficiencies in their production process. Their initial plan involved completing Phase 1 of a new steel and castings foundry to assess how well the new facility improved operations. For nearly four years, Yamaha had been shipping castings back to the original facility for finishing. Although a Phase 2 building expansion was under consideration, Yamaha wanted to ensure the success of Phase 1 before relocating their finishing operations to the new facility. Thanks to the successful execution by the Compass/Yamaha team, not only was Phase 2 approved, but additional future expansions to be prioritized.
Minimizing Disruption, Maximizing Functionality
Yamaha’s Phase 2 expansion wasn’t just about construction – it was about ensuring their production continued uninterrupted. Throughout the pre-construction phase, Compass diligently reviewed plans for operational maintenance with Yamaha, including chiller relocation and temporary pathways for fork trucks, to ensure seamless continuity of Yamaha’s operations.
When unexpected logistical hurdles arose, such as a limited site and the need to relocate storage containers, we didn’t wait for problems to escalate. Our team proactively constructed a new gravel lot solution that aligned with potential future expansion plan, addressing the immediate concern and paving the way for future phases. This commitment to long-term planning, from the earliest stages through project completion, demonstrates our dedication to Yamaha’s continued success.
Disrupting operations for our manufacturing clients is not something we take lightly. . Through early preconstruction and planning meetings, the team established innovative solutions, such as a specialized scaffold system, to ensure seamless trash removal and deliveries. This seemingly small detail spoke volumes about our dedication to minimizing disruptions and keeping their business humming.
Functionality was paramount for Yamaha. We prioritized operational efficiency with features like high-speed doors and redundant power systems. Our meticulous schedule management, including coordinated power shutdowns and securing a temporary certificate of occupancy ahead of schedule, further solidified Yamaha’s confidence in our team.

A Partnership for the Future
Functionality was paramount for Yamaha, and our in-depth understanding of the building process allowed us to deliver a solution that perfectly met their needs. The project went beyond simply meeting expectations; it solidified a strong partnership. Our commitment to efficiency, schedule management, and redundant power systems further solidified Yamaha’s confidence. So much so, that the successful completion of Phase 2 led to an accelerated Phase 3 project.
The Yamaha Precision Propeller project is a story of collaboration, proactive problem-solving, and a deep commitment to client needs. It’s a testament to the power of building trust, not just structures. We’re proud to have partnered with Yamaha on this project, and we look forward to building upon this successful foundation for years to come.
