Compass

At Compass, we understand 2020 has packed a punch. As if a global pandemic wasn’t enough, our country faced stay-at-home orders, economic shutdowns, and many other unprecedented challenges. And unfortunately, these tough events have taken a toll on so many people and businesses.

Despite the challenges, Compass has been going strong, and we’ve been fortunate to continue planning and building new projects during this unique year. This is not something we take for granted.

We’re committed to showing up for our community all year long—those we serve, our own team, partners, friends, and neighbors. Over the years, we have intentionally looked for ways to impact those around us through charitable contributions. This year, at a time when so many are struggling, we felt even more compelled to share our good fortune.

In 2020, we’ve chosen to share our time and financial resources with two area nonprofits that speak to our heart, kNOT TODAY and One80 Recovery Resources, and would love for you to get to know them, too.

kNOT TODAY

Founded by Colts head coach, Frank Reich, and his wife, Linda, kNOT TODAY promotes prevention, awareness, and healing for abused and sexually exploited children. Human trafficking can be a difficult subject to talk about, but kNOT TODAY strives to break down barriers with Public Service Announcements and engaging directly with leaders and the community.

This incredible organization also works with local law enforcement and the FBI to identify and rescue vulnerable children. Words can’t fully describe the impact this organization is having on those who desperately need advocates and support to break vicious cycles.

In Spring 2020, kNOT TODAY began conceptualizing a new spaceto better serve its mission. Compass stepped in to lend a hand. Compass was able to provide construction services for the project and guide kNOT TODAY through the process. We helped the organization to utilize critical funds in the most efficient and impactful way possible with the generous contribution of many Compass subcontracting partners.

By November, the new kNOT TODAY space off of East Washington in Indianapolis became a reality. KNOT TODAY and Ascent121, a trauma recovery center for sexually exploited teens, moved in and began continuing the amazing work they do.

Healing sexually exploited children takes a thoughtful and intentional approach. KNOT TODAY knew the new building needed not only peaceful, professional counseling spaces, but elements of fun and lightheartedness, too.

For starters, the space is brightly lit and colorful. Fun and functional swings hang from the ceiling, dividing therapy rooms from the main lobby. A large kitchen provides opportunities for teens to learn culinary skills and gain self-confidence (and to enjoy great food, of course). And there’s even a large exercise room for ballet and yoga classes complete with barres and a mirrored wall.

“This building is tangible evidence that kNOT TODAY is putting passion into action and making a great impact in the area of sexually abused, exploited, and trafficked children,” says co-founder Linda Reich.

Construction on the new building was truly a group effort. While Compass donated expertise as the general contractor, Eight Days of Hope acted as the main contractor. Also, many of the local subcontractors gifted their services completely. It was incredible to watch people from all over the country come together to pitch in time and talent.

“We cannot say enough about the generosity and heart of the Compass team,” shares Linda. “Each and every person was committed to doing things with excellence, going above and beyond in every way.”

Now that the project is complete, Compass is also proud to give kNOT TODAY a monetary gift to further fuel its mission. We encourage you to visit kNOT TODAY online and learn more about how you can be part of the inspiring work they’re doing in our community.

One80 Recovery Resources

Just a short jaunt northwest of Indianapolis in Frankfort, One80 Recovery Resources offers addiction recovery and counseling for men in a welcoming, faith-based setting. Rich Reck, VP of Operations at NHK Seating, started One80 after losing his own son to substance abuse. Now he’s committed to saving the lives of men entangled in alcohol and drug addiction.

Currently, One80 is planning the next phase of its mission to offer in-home addiction treatment with a newly constructed home. Land has been generously donated in Frankfort, and when our team learned more about One80 through our friends at NHK, we wanted to help in any way we could.

With Compass’s Craig Maddy taking lead as project manager, the new facility will be a stand-alone, residential-style building with over 6000 square feet, room for 16 beds, a commercial kitchen, and comfortable amenities like large bathrooms with tiled showers. And this will be just the start of One80’s life-changing work. Rich’s dream is to expand across Indiana with 17 more substance abuse recovery homes (10 for men and 7 for women) to combat the Hoosier state’s addiction epidemic.

“Compass has been a blessing to work with,” Rich says. “They’ve remained ahead of schedule and even under budget.”

One80’s project is in the fundraising stage, which means you can still make a year-end donation to make this dream a reality. With tentative plans to start construction in Spring 2021, Compass will not only oversee the project, but a group of our big-hearted employees will  volunteer time and talents to this much-needed resource. And as part of our annual holiday giving, we’re also donating a financial gift this month to help propel One80 forward. We urge you to consider doing the same.

As 2020 wraps up, the Compass team is beyond grateful for the steady stream of work and growth we’ve continued to experience this year. And we’re also so thankful for the loyal clients, partners, and friends we’ve made along the way. It’s an honor to be in a position to come alongside organizations like kNOT TODAY and One80, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to change the world, one life at a time.
